Wheeling and Dealing Continues in the NBA:

The shipping of Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks started the floodgates of NBA trades. Baron Davis went from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder swapped centers in Kendrick Perkins and Jeff Green. The Portland Trailblazers received Gerald Wallace for Joel Pryzbilla, Dante Cunningham, Sean Marks and two first round draft picks. It’s a great pick for the Blazers. Wallace is a quality all star that can play with great players like Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge.

Davis was traded for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon. The Clippers also sent their first round pick to the Cavs. Davis goes from playing with one of exciting young players in Blake Griffin to the purgatory experience of playing in Cleveland. It’s a long fall. The Clippers get younger with Williams and Moon. The draft pick will be used to accelerate the post-James era in Cleveland while the malcontent Davis will play poorly on a regular basis. There’s already history of discontent between Davis and Cavs coach Byron Scott when Scott coached in New Orleans.

Players come and go during the NBA season. Teams out of the playoffs make moves for the future, like adding Deron Williams in New Jersey. Teams also drop expiring contracts for the upcoming offseason, to add a talented free agent. Green to the Celtics is the most interesting move. Boston is now smaller in the center, with Jermaine O’Neal, Shaq O’Neal and Glen Davis all filling in for the tougher Perkins at the five for Boston. Their a little undersized now and it should benefit he other top teams in the Eastern Conference.
