It isn't over till its over. Those famous words for Yogi
Berra seem to inspire the Utah Jazz’s rally victories in recent weeks. The
team did it again, defeating the Charlotte Bobcats 96-95 on Sunday night.
The Jazz came back from a 16-point halftime deficit to defeat the Bobcats.
It was the team’s fifth straight win and fourth on the road. It was the
fifth come-from-behind victory for Utah.
They trailed by 16 against the Los Angeles Clippers to start the streak,
then 22-point deficit to the Miami Heat to win in overtime. They trailed the
Orlando Magic by 18-points for the next victory in the streak. They trailed
the Atlanta Hawks by 11 in the fourth quarter and came back to win. Head
coach Jerry Sloan understands how to keep his team motivated and ready for
every possible deficit. Deron Williams is establishing himself as one of the
best point guards in the NBA. Paul Millsap was the major reason the Jazz
downed the Heat in overtime.
It’s not a great habit to make in the NBA, trailing by a lot and expecting
to win. The team builds confidence with the winning streak, but it’s not
going to help in the long run. They’re going to have to learn how to play
with the lead, milk the clock and play tighter defense. It will lead to
easier scoring chances for the Jazz. The Jazz are proving it’s important to
stay for every shot and don’t leave early. Teams have to know that no lead
is safe against Utah.
