Meyer Leaves Florida...Again, but is It Forever?

Urban Meyer will go down as one of the best collegiate
football coaches in history. He’s only 46 years old and decided to step down
as head coach at the University of Florida. He cited his family and his
health as two major reason he’s leaving the Gators. He retired for one day
last season, the day after Christmas, and came back in time for the Sugar
Bowl. This season’s 7-5 record, losing his coordinators and Tim Tebow took
its toll on the stellar coach.
This season has been Meyer’s most disappointing. He’s won two national
titles and four BCS Bowl games. His winning percentage stands at .816. He
can’t stand to lose games. This season, there were questions about the
struggling offense. His players would occasionally appear in the police
blotter and his former recruit is leading a rival program into the BCS
National Championship Game. Cam Newton left Florida after using a stolen
laptop and cheating accusations. Meyer brought Newton to Florida as a
replacement for Tebow. He’s had a more impressive season that Tebow did, but
it was for the Auburn Tigers, not the Gators.
It will be interesting to see what Meyer does next. He has that ultimate
desire to coach and win football games. Tebow needs a new coach in Denver.
His offense isn’t suited for the NFL game. Will he listen to his family and
stay away forever? Only Meyer knows the meaning. Florida is the top coaching
program in college football. His style isn’t suited for the NFL. He’s going
to stay away for a few years, but not forever.
