The U.S. Men's National Team that will compete in the FIBA
World Championships in Turkey is a young team will a lot of inexperience.
Chancey Billups and Lamar Odom are the senior members of the team. A lot of
young veterans, Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose among them, are looking to
establish themselves on the world stage. They recently finished their
exhibition schedule with a dominating performance over Greece with the score
87-59. The team didn't lose a game during their exhibition tour, which
included games against France, Lithuania and Spain.
Rose was named the MVP of the game, shooting 6-of-7, scoring 13 points in
only 18 minutes of playing time. Eric Gordon lead all scorers with 18 points
off the bench. Kevin Love played center for most of the game. There's no
true center on the U.S. roster, with Tyson Chandler as the serviceable
center. It shouldn't be a hindrance because most of the teams they'll be
playing are fast and don't have a large presence in the middle. Spain, with
Marc Gasol pose a threat on the inside. The Greek team is also formidable
front court, but didn't show it against the Americans in the exhibition.
The A-list stars are missing from the roster. It doesn't matter. The
frontcourt is comprised of Love, Chandler, Odom and Andre Iguodala. Stephan
Curry, Russell Westbrook, Billups, Rose and Gordon are the guards on the
team. The wing players are Durant, Rudy Gay and Danny Granter. It's a team
that lacks experience. It's in this lack of experience that breeds
determination to prove they were the best group of players sent to the
international stage. This team has naive confidence led by Kevin Durant and
other talent ready to prove themselves on the international level. The
confidence is high and this team is ready for the FIBA championships
starting Saturday August 28 in Istanbul.
