PGA Augusta National:

Spring time means most men are cleaning out their closets and digging out their golf clubs. In the professional ranks, it means the world's best golfers are preparing for Augusta National and the Master tournament. Most PGA Tour regulars have already had some tune up time playing in some of the lesser tournaments.

All eyes will be on the world's number one golfer, Tiger Woods. Forget his transgressions, what he did in the past and the messy details in which it all came out. The guy can still play and now he's going to prove it to every one. Some of his sponsors left him, but they'll probably regret it. He's going to break Jack Nicklaus' record of major wins, it's just a matter of when and how many he'll finish with. He should play like a man with an enormous chip on his shoulder. The invasive nature of 24 hour news cycles and gossip websites took its toll on his family and his life. He's not perfect and it's nice to see that even the world's best golfer goes through the same martial issues that plague most marriages.

Augusta ushers in the golf season for most of the country. It should be another solid contest with the usual suspects, Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington, Ernie Els and a few others that are atop the leader boards at the other major tournaments. Angel Cabrera will look to become the first back to back champion since Woods. It's long fairways and fast greens make it treacherous for most professionals.

The nice part of the Masters is that along with being the first major of the year, some unknown that received an invite to play usually posts a great score and plays his best golf for three days. This would result in ending up in the final pairing on the fourth day of the tournament. It makes for great television for CBS when it's an unknown going up against Mickelson, Harrington, Els or perhaps Woods.

Woods should play well at the Masters. The time off means he's a little rusty and that's not good for arguably the greatest recoverer in golf's history. Expect him to play well, but I don't think Cabrera will be placing the jacket on Woods. I think it will be an unknown player along with Mickelson playing in the final pair on Sunday. Mickelson's been quiet during some of the majors last season and expect him to come out and have one of his better seasons.
