NFL Football Collective Bargaining Agreement:

This National Football League offseason was the first
without a salary cap in quite a long time. The owners voted to end the
collective bargaining agreement. Every one expected Daniel Snyder and Jerry
Jones to spend on top flight free agents. The restrictions meant that you
need a certain number of years in the league was longer before reaching
unrestricted free agent status.
Teams were able to retain their valued players and not a whole lot was spent
on free agents. The team that made some of the more drastic changes include
in the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers released long time face of the
franchise in running back LaDanian Tomlinson. LT had some of the most
impressive seasons as a running back playing in southern California. The
Chargers also traded defensive back Antonio Cromartie to the New York Jets.
The Jets now arguably have the best cornerback tandem with Cromartie and
Darrelle Revis. The Jets now should be a force on defense with head coach
Rex Ryan and their core players together for another year in the 3-4
defense.
Teams rosters are just still beginning to fill out and the holes won't be
finished until after the draft. The Philadelphia Eagles make news daily
because of their trade rumors about Donovan McNabb and their other
quarterbacks. McNabb has led the team to five NFC championship games and
doesn't deserve to be trade bait at this point in his career. He deserves to
got to a winner now because he's not getting any oder but still has some
quality performances ahead of him.
Roger Goodell and DeMaurice Smith need to come up with a solution before the
there's another work stoppage in the NFL. Work stoppages in the NFL led to
great change and it's hard to think of a scenario that's good. The NFL is
the best league in the U.S. and its profits are astronomical. The problem is
that the owners want more of the revenue and players with more experience
want to see a rookie salary cap.
In the next CBA, a rookie salary cap should mean that important veterans
more money and owners will probably get some more cut of the profits. It's
important to see what happens, but the product on the field won't suffer.
The Jets really look like a team that can de-thrown the New England Patriots
in the AFC East. The Indianapolis Colts will continue to win games as long
as Peyton Manning is under center. The Houston Texans should win some games
and contend for a play off spot this season. The AFC continues to be a
better conference, but the defending champion resides in the NFC.
It's an excited time as teams start off season training and teams prepare to
start getting ready for training camp and eventually, the regular season.
The offseason provides tremendous amounts of hope for a number of fan bases
and with all the roster moves, it should be interesting to see how off the
field happensin effect what happens on it.
