NFL Draft Round 1 Recap:
| Author: Michael Licata |
| Date: 04/24/2010 |
Well, the First Round is over and there were a lot of
surprises. Tim Tebow being selected in the first round wasn't completely out
of the realm of possibilities, but it's going to take him a ton of time to
get acclimated to the NFL. Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels works
well with quarterbacks, but he's got a long way to go.
The most shocking pick doesn't even land with Denver. The Jacksonville
Jaguars reached for Cal defensive tackle Tyson Alualu. Most draft experts
had him pegged as a second round talent. The Jags did a great job of hiding
their interest in him. It also hints at the fact that they tried to trade
out of the number 10, but were unsuccessful. The other story from the first
round is the fact that former Notre Dame signal caller Jimmy Clausen wasn't
taken. Scouts are enamored with his arm strength and the fact that he played
in a pro style offense under Charlie Weis. The questions with Clausen
revolves around his immaturity as a person and the concerns over his health.
I think which ever team is able to trade into the early part of round two
will either look to get Clausen, quarterback Colt McCoy or Sergio Kindle.
Kindles is the best player available. He should go within the first five
picks of round two. Fans shouldn't get worried about their picks, the draft
isn't over and your team can still pick up some quality in rounds two and
three. It should be a good day for any team that has a few picks today. Be
optimistic, there's some quality picks available. Fans need to trust their
scouting departments and expect to see some more excitement as the next few
days will see some name players being moved.
