Two NFC Contenders Earn First Win

It only took three weeks, but two early Super Bowl favorites earned their first wins on Sunday. The Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings each won for the first time. The Cowboys downed in state rival Houston, 27-13 behind an impressive balanced offense. The Vikings defeated the Detroit Lions 24-10. It was much needed for both teams. Brett Favre was really having second thoughts after starting the season 0-2. The Cowboys don’t have to face Jerry Jones after losing three games to start the season.

Favre was unable to move the ball through the air on Sunday. They relied on all world running back Adrian Peterson. He more than delivered for the Vikes, gashing the Lions defense for 160 yards with two touchdowns, including a 80-yard scamper that put the game out of reach. The Lions were pretty much held down, rookie Jahvid Best was limited to 26 yards on seven carries. He left in the third quarter when he re-injured an injury from week one.

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo threw for two long touchdowns to Roy Williams and Marion Barber ran for another score in a complete win. DeMarcus Ware sacked Texans QB Matt Schaub three times. That kind of pressure didn't allow him to find Andre Johnson. Arian Foster had another impressive game, running for 106 yards on 25 carries. Williams had his best game with the Cowboys, finishing with 117 receiving yards on five catches and the two touchdowns.

Both teams have their bye week this upcoming weekend. They’re both going into the off week with confidence. They’re both capable of winning a lot of football games. Favre will eventually need to develop a better relationships with his receivers. Peterson cannot beat the elite teams with just one dimension. Dallas righted their ship, but Wade Phillips needs to take more control of the team and Jason Garrett. One win isn’t going to change a lot of the problems for both teams, but it sure does help with the moral of both teams.
