NBA Cap Projection for 2010-2011 season:

NBA teams received some good news over the weekend. Early
cap projections for the 2010-11 season were $53.1 million. The good news was
that the NBA Board of Governors reported that the salary cap would be $56.1
million for 10-11 season.
The New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards and New Jersey Nets
all have enough money to spend on at least one maximum player contract.
That's also great news for the most coveted free agents, like LeBron James,
Amare Stoudemire and Chris Bosh. They were going to get max contracts, but
maybe two of them can play together like say, the Knicks. New York has
enough cap space for two maximum contracts along with space for maybe an
important role player.
This is a good sign for the NBA itself. Yes, the cap is lower than in recent
years, but they're able to adjust to the economic times. It's playoff time
in the NBA and the Lakers answered a lot of questions in their game one
defeat of the young Oklahoma City Thunder. The Orlando Magic stuttered
towards the end of the game, but still held on to defeat the Charlotte
Bobcats. Shaq O'Neal returned after a long lay off in the first game against
the Bulls as the Cavs and James defeated a late charging Chicago team in
game one.
Late charging teams seem to be a theme in the first games of the NBA
playoffs. The majority of the favored teams seem to be figuring it out while
the other teams are learning about playoff basketball. It should more
quality games before the next round, when there's even better matchups. The
NBA seems to be a healthier league with the announcement of the expected
salary cap for next season. The entire landscape of the league could change
this summer. Now, the focus is on the dream matchup between James and Kobe
Bryant in the NBA Finals to see which player is the most complete player in
the league.
