It was an unbelievable day where the game of golf got started. On a day when everything was cool and calm, Rory McIlroy put on a tremendous show, scorching St. Andrews with a 9 under 63 to lead the Open Championship by two strokes. It was a simple day for great scores, with 45 rounds in the 60s. McIlroy's 63 ties the lowest round for any major.

Tiger Woods is lurking after shooting 67, finishing his round with three birdies and one bogey. Last year's Open Championship, the ageless Tom Watson almost won it, this year it's another former champion. John Daly, the 1995 Open Championship winner at St. Andrew's, shooting a 66 opening round. Daly needs the conditions to be perfect if he's going to continue near the top of the leaderboard. Don't count on it, the conditions will change and he'll fade. He is a great sideshow that gets one more chance to take the

The conditions helped Daly. His booming tee shots and no wind gave him a tremendous advantage over the field. The early conditions changed as the rain came around noon. The conditions will now take over during the rest of the tournament. The questions are can McIlroy keep up his great game with the conditions changing. How much worry surrounds having to play with Tiger. Is he on his way to breaking Jack Nicklaus' record? he seems to be back after a few shaky rounds, missing the cut at a tournament. Most fans have forgotten his off the course transgressions, they just want to see the world's best golfer chasing Nicklaus' Majors record.

St. Andrew's is a magical place where the game started. it's been the scene for a lot of great Open Championship moments. It looks like this weekend is setting up to be another magical go around at St. Andrew's.
