Manning Has To Adjust To Latest Receiving Injury

Peyton Manning has always been able to replace his favorite
receiving targets. He was one half of the greatest quarterback-receiving
tandems in NFL with Marvin Harrison. The Colts deemed Harrison too old to be
of value and chose not to resign him after the 2008 season. Manning
perserved with Reggie Wayne and won a Super Bowl. The Colts have always been
able to provide great second and third options for Manning, including Dallas
Clark and Pierre Garcon.
This season has been much of the same. Austin Collie developed into a
dependable target for Manning when Garcon suffered an injury earlier this
season. It’s going to get tougher for the team going forward this season.
Clark was placed on injured reserve after deciding to have surgery to repair
his broken wrist. Collie had surgery to repair an injured thumb. He’s likely
to return this season, but it’s unclear exactly when he’ll be back. Anthony
Gonzalez is hampered by a high ankle sprain. The Colts have a bye week seven
and he’s expected to miss a few games after the break.
Manning is the smartest QB in the league. He’ll have the players ready to
play after the bye week. It’s going to take longer to trust his targets than
normal. Joseph Addai is doing a great job running the ball. It will help
Manning going forward. Defenses know enough not to try and load the box
against the Colts run offense. Manning will pick apart the defense, they’ll
get the back ups ready. It’s one of the reasons the Colts are always among
the best teams in the NFL each and every season.
