Knicks Bring Back Thomas in Consulting Role:

You're bringing back him? The New York Knicks announced
that Isiah Thomas is now a consultant with the team. Yes, the same person
that buried the franchise and became one of the largest, most hated figures
in the history of the New York sports scene. He will keep his job as head
coach at Florida International. This is the first step for him to become a
NBA general manager again. The KNicks currently don't have a general
manager. Worry not Knicks fans, that job will go to Allan Houston. He's
earned it and Dolan really likes Houston.
Why then, would they bring back Thomas? He helped in the recruitment of
Amare Stoudemire to join the franchise. Thomas was also a part of a
contingent from the Knicks deployed to Cleveland to make a last ditch effort
to sign LeBron James. He's going to dispense advice to Walsh and Dolan about
available free agents and help bring players to the Knicks. He loved
coaching in New York and thank goodness he's not going to be seen at Madison
Square Garden this season.
Thomas exploited an NCAA loophole by joining the Knicks in this capacity.
It's a conflict of interest he can use when contacting potential recruits
for FIU. He can sell recruits on joining FIU will most likely accompany a
positive recommendation Thomas will send to the Knicks. It's one of the
strongest bridges for a high school player. They all expect to end up in the
NBA, why not play for a guy that holds a position with one of its
franchises. That's a pretty glaring loophole for the NCAA. They look really
bad with this recent development.
Thomas oversaw the worst era in Knicks history. He's now helping out the
franchise in deciding which players to draft, along with recruiting free
agents to come to New York. It's not that hard of a city to sell to free
agents. Miami has the great weather and beaches, but wouldn't it be great if
you revamped the entire franchise and brought it glory, even its first
championship since 1970? Expect Thomas to be seen scarcely around the
season, but his influence will still be known. He might even parlay this
experience into another general manager position. If that happens, pray for
the foolish owner that gave him that power.
