Knicks and Celtics Provide Instant Classic

The game lived up to the hype. It was a back and forth affair that saw the stalwart team in in the end. The Boston Celtics downed the New York Knicks, 118-116 on Wednesday night. Paul Pierce played the villian, sinking the game winning shot over Amare Stoudemire. Stoudemire’s three point attempt was after the buzzer, giving the Celtics the victory in the end. The Celtics proved why they’ve been so successful these last few years, experience and clutch shooting when it counts the most. It’s still lopsided in favor of the Celtics, but there’s tremendous potential for a great rivalry for the next couple of years between the Celtics and Knicks.

The loss ended the Knicks eight game winning streak. Stoudemire led all players with 39 points and 10 rebounds for New York. Pierce paced the Celtics with 32 points and 10 boards. Ray Felton added 26 points and 14 assists in a losing effort. Kevin Garnett contributed 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Celtics. One of the great individual match ups when these two teams meet will be between Stoudemire and Garnett. The two players are two of the best big men in the NBA. They want to out do each other every time they share a NBA court.

It’s important for the NBA to have the Knicks relevant again. Stoudemire proved a great spark for a dormant franchise. People are talking about the team again. They’re excited about the potential of this franchise. Boston will always have great teams. They’re the model of what a NBA franchise should be. It’s only a couple games into the season, but these two teams should be fighting for the division crown for the rest of the season. It’s good for the NBA. The Knicks are back, but they still have some growing to do in order to be on the level with the Celtics.
