Heat Close To Adding Another Important Piece

During the offseason, the Miami Heat added two elite free
agents. They’ve compiled one of the greatest rosters in NBA history by
adding LeBron James and Chris Bosh. They’re on the verge of adding another
important piece, the hulk of a man that can compete in the block against
Shaquielle O’Neal, Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum. Former Mavericks center
Erick Dampier is mulling an one year offer from the Heat. He’s leaning
towards taking the deal because it’s the best way to win the championship.
Dampier is listed at 6-foot-11 and 265 pounds. It means he can play against
Howard and O’Neal in the Eastern Conference. Looking down the road, he can
also stand up to Bynum if the Heat and Los Angeles Lakers meet in the NBA
Finals. He’s the presence in the lower block taking a pounding. He’s also
going to help set screens and clear the way for Dwayne Wade and James to
attack the basket. He is 35, but the Heat have Joel Anthony, Jamaal Magloire
and Zydrunas Ilgauskus on the roster to spell Dampier. It’s more likely that
Dampier would only play against hte big bodied centers.
The Heat added two of the best players in the league in Bosh and James.
They’ve got the best triumvirate in the NBA in a long time. Dampier is going
to be the most important part. If Shaq, Howard and other big centers clog
the lane, it’s going to be hard for James and Wade to attack the basket.
Dampier’s stats haven’t been that impressive the last few years, but the
impact won’t show up on the stat sheet. He’s the big presence in the middle.
It’s the last piece of the puzzle that gets the team the NBA Championship.
