Favre Returns to Vikings:

Author: Michael Licata
Date: 08/18/2010

Well, the guessing game is over and it looks like the Minnesota Vikings are the class of the NFC again, all because of one player. Vikings players Jared Allen, Steve Hutchinson and Josh Bidwell took a flight to Hattiesburg to get an answer to whether Brett Favre intends to play in 2010. They got their answer, as Favre returned to Minkato, Minnesota with the three players. It looks like he will join the Vikings on August 18th for his first practice.

It should be interesting to see how well Favre plays after having surgery on his ankle during the off season. His ankle has taken time to heal after surgery. The Vikings seemed to be urgent about whether Favre played or not this upcoming season. Favre was always going to play, the flight and argument made by the three teammates that took the flight to Mississippi made the decision for Favre. The team automatically makes them the favorite in the NFC, even with the defending Super Bowl champions. He was really beaten up in the NFC Championship game, which led to the ankle surgery by the famed Dr. James Andrews. Favre gives the Vikings the advantage of throwing better than Tavaris Jackson. Jackson would've presumably been the starter if Favre hadn't returned. The Vikings will always rely on Adrian Peterson to run the ball, but Favre brings that gunslinger arm that can win games. His stats from last year are ridiculous for some one his age. He turns 41 in October.

He has most of the important passing records and his consecutive games played record isn't going to be broken. Peyton Manning has an impressive streak, but it's football, anything can happen, unless you're Brett Favre. It should be interesting to see how Favre responds to playing in the preseason. He doesn't need the extra work. He knows the offense and is familiar with the wide receivers. He doesn't enjoy staying in college dormitories and if he plays more than five series during the preseason games, I would be shocked. He's not expected to play in the upcoming preseason game against San Francisco, but he'll get some reps in the third game. It's the game where the starters get reps for the regular season.

The Vikings were an eight or nine win team with Jackson behind center because of the over dependence on the running game, now with Favre they'll probably win 12 or 13 games. Peterson's missed some time during training camp, but he'll be ready for the regular season. The Vikings only get better because Favre will get another season with the receiving corps. He's going to test the ankle health at practice with mobility drills. Favre can't walk away from the game of football, not with the quality of Vikings. Favre might win his second Super Bowl and it would be the end of his contract with Minnesota. If he wins another one, will it be enough for Favre? Football fans will see. I'm ready for the regular season.
