0-2 Hole Has Cowboys Concerned

Uh oh, how early is too early to panic at the start of the NFL season? The Dallas Cowboys expect to end their season at home, the first home team to host the Super Bowl. It’s looking bleak after losing to the Chicago Bears 27-20, starting the season 0-2. Tony Romo was left searching for answers after a throwing two unexpected interceptions. He also didn’t have much help in the running game.

Marion Barber only had 31 yards on 11 carries for the Cowboys. They only ran the ball 20 times as a team. Romo threw for 374 yards with a TD and two picks. It just shows how teams rarely win football games without offensive balance. Dallas had a chance to tie the game mid way through the fourth quarter, but kicker David Buehler shanked a 44-yard field goal attempt.

Dallas is 0-2 for the first time since 2001. They have to spend the week figuring how to eliminate minor mistakes to get back on track. Cowboy’s owner Jerry Jones talked after the loss, stating it was important that he doesn’t instantly react to the 0-2. He has to evaluate the team before making any decisions. He might want to start with offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. Garrett chose to run the ball at the end of the half against the Redskins last week, instead of kneeling down. It resulted in a Redskins touchdown. He could also be targeted for abandoning the running game while the game was close.

It’s only week two of the season, but there are signs for concern for the Cowboys. Favorite target Jason Whitten will miss next week after suffering a concussion against Chicago. They should be able to get it together before continuing their division play. The Cowboys will right the ship, Wade Philips is too good of a coach to let this much talent lose football games. They need to find a balance between Romo throwing the ball and that tremendous stable of running backs run the football.
