Conference Tournaments Present One Last Showcase:

Regular season champions are being crowned this weekend.
It’s all in an push towards the conference tournaments this week with
Selection Sunday only a week away. The North Carolina Tar Heels defeated
arch rival Duke, 81-67 at UNC. It gives the Tar Heels the the number one
seed in the ACC tournament starting in Greensboro, NC on Tuesday. Pittsburgh
defeated Villanova to earn the regular season Big East Championship. The
Florida Gators won the SEC title and Ohio State claimed the Big Ten title.
Three teams even punched their respective tickets to the NCAA tournament.
Belmont, UNC-Asheville and Morehead State will all play for the national
championship in a couple of weeks. They’re three Cinderella teams that will
look to knock off some of the top competition. The major conference
tournaments begin on Tuesday at the home courts, with each conference
picking a major market within the conference to host the tournament. It’s
one last opportunity for a bubble team to make a run, defeat some elite
conference opponents for a chance at the field of 68.
The system for determining and choosing the at-large bid is complex,
computerized system. Most of the bracketologists get it right in the end.
The outcomes are mostly determined. It’s still going to be a great week of
college basketball as teams try to solidify their tournament resume. Which
bubble teams make it deep in conference tournaments? Which bubble teams lose
early and will see a NIT invite instead of a trip to the big dance? We’ll
have to wait and see.
