College Football Slate Includes In State Rivalries

It’s instate rivalry weekend in college football. There’s
more than bragging rights at stake this weekend, which makes the games even
more important that usual. The Florida State/Miami clash provides a great
opportunity for both programs to distance themselves from the rest of the
Atlantic Coast Conference. It’s going to be a tough game for both offenses.
Florida State ranks first in the country in sacks, number two in tackles for
loss and fourth in rush defense. Miami is ranked similarly, first in tackles
for loss, second in sacks and second in pass defense efficiency.
The teams are mirrored in other aspects of the game as well. Christian
Ponder is a veteran quarterback that leads the Seminoles offense. His
counterpart with the Canes, Jacory Harris is also a upperclassman with
starting experience. Harris is coming off a four touchdown game against
Clemson. Ponder has eight touchdowns and three interceptions on the season.
For each team, the season gets easier after this game. The Seminoles do have
to face Florida, but there’s still a deficiency in talent between the two
programs, with Florida having a huge advantage.
Michigan playing Michigan State is always a quality football game. The
Spartans have one the last two contests, winning the Paul Bunyan Trophy.
There’s a lot at stake this Saturday. Both programs are 5-0 entering the
game. Michigan State has an important win over Wisconsin. The Wolverines
downed Big East favorite Connecticut. Michigan State is looking to win three
straight in the series for the first time since 1965-67.
Denard Robinson, the dynamic sophomore QB leads the Wolverines offense. He’s
the most dynamic player in college football. He’s going to meet a formidable
force in Spartans senior linebacker Greg Jones. It’s going to be interesting
to see the constant chess match between Robinson and Jones throughout the
game. The Spartans will also look for respect if they win the game this
weekend. Michigan always dominate the headlines. It’s continued with
Robinson’s impressive play. They can hold bragging rights to the state of
Michigan with a win on Sunday, then the respect will come. Florida and
Michigan have a great football tradition. Their are bragging rights on the
line for both states and it’s going to be two great college football games.
