There seem to be a lot of great streaks going on in the NBA
this season. The New York Knicks won eight games in a row. The Miami Heat
seemed to steady their ship for a strong winning streak. The Dallas
Mavericks learned how to play defense and are winning games. The team that
trumped all the winning streaks is one of the most consistent franchises in
the NBA. THe Boston Celtics won their 14th consecutive game by defeating the
Philadelphia 76ers, 84-80. It wasn’t an easy win, the Celtics weren’t at
their best, but they found a way to win the basketball game.
Ray Allen led Boston with 22 points. The team only shot 38 percent from the
field. Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Glen Davis all combined for 29 points.
It was that kind of night for the Celtics. They still found a way to win the
basketball game. Shaquille O’Neal played in his second game since missing
four consecutive games with a calf injury. The veteran played 28 minutes and
finished with 13 points and nine rebounds. It proves the necessary depth to
be a consistent successful NBA team.
The Celtics are three years removed from their last NBA championship. They
have the core three players, Pierce, Allen and Garnett for two or three more
solid chances for another title. They’ve added depth in positions where it
counts. Rajon Rondo, when healthy, is one of the best point guards in the
game, but he’s going to miss significant time with an ankle injury. He’s
only going to make the team better when he returns. The Lakers are the
defending champs, but expect the third Celtics-Lakers finals in four years,
with the Celtics winning this time around.
