Carmelo Anthony Targeted by Two Teams:

Carmelo Anthony stalled a trade that would have sent him to the New Jersey Nets. He would’ve become the centerpiece around the new arena located in Brooklyn. That deal was nixed because Anthony doesn’t want to play in Jersey, just at Madison Square Garden for the New York Knicks. The Knicks didn’t have the package that the Nets had, but the desperation seems to be setting in as the Minnesota Timberwolves have been brought in as a third team to facilitate a deal for Anthony that lands him in New York.

In recent days, the Los Angeles Lakers spoke with the Denver Nuggets about a possible deal that would land Anthony with the Lakers. The deal’s most important piece would be moving Lakers center Andrew Bynum to the Nuggets for Anthony. Anthony would have to sign the three-year, $65 million contract extension as part of any trade. It’s going to be an intensive couple of days in both New York and Los Angeles. Bynum is only 23-years old and has a ton of upside. The problem stems from his knee injuries derailing his super stardom.

He missed the first 24 games of this season and parts of the playoffs last season. He’s a quality player, but his knees are the great uncertainty. Anthony is a proven commodity, but can he play second scorer to Kobe Bryant? Anthony and his wife recently purchased a home in the LA area, meaning he wouldn’t veto a trade to the Lakers. The desire to win in New York is a far greater draw than playing second fiddle to Bryant in Los Angeles. He wants to be the centerpiece of the franchise and Amare Stoudemire is used to playing with great talent. Bryant doesn’t seem to like sharing the spotlight.
