It’s easy for the Chicago Bulls to be forgotten in the
Eastern Conference. They don’t have the pedigree of the Boston Celtics or
the star power of the Miami Heat. They just play as a team with the leading
Most Valuable Player candidate in Derrick Rose and a stingy defense coached
by Tom Thibodeau. He’s considered a leading candidate for coach of the year.
Chicago beat Miami in all three contests this season. They’re second in the
Eastern Conference standings.
Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf thinks this current team can have the same
success as the Jordan era squads. Thibodeau is a great defensive coach that
helped the Celtics win a championship with Doc Rivers three seasons ago. It
was only a matter of time before he got a NBA head coaching position. The
Bulls’ bench depth is a major reason for their success. It keeps them
healthy which is important in a long playoff run. Rasual Butler, Kyle Korver
and Ronnie Brewer all provide solid minutes behind starters Rose, Joakim
Noah and Luol Deng.
It’s a tough road towards the NBA Finals out of the East. The Celtics are
still the class of the conference. The New York Knicks seem to be getting
better each game and there’s always a sleeper that scares teams. The Bulls
might be in the best position of all the Eastern Conference teams. They have
one superstar in Rose and a tireless worker in Noah. The Bulls are in great
position to make a run at the championship this season.
