Brian Kelly Brings Success To South Bend:

Brian Kelly has had success every where he's gone to coach.
He won two Division II national championships during his tenure at Grand
Valley State. He won the MAC championship with Central Michigan in his 3rd
season. He won 10 games in his first year at Cincinnati and followed that
success with two consecutive Big East championships. He brings all this
experience to South Bend, In. to resurrect the most storied college football
program in Notre Dame.
Kelly is replacing a polar opposite in Charlie Weis. Weis was a proven
offensive coordinator under Bill Belichick. He wasn't a proven head coach on
any important level. Kelly brings a tremendous amount of success along with
the ability to turn entire programs around very quickly. It's something the
Irish faithful is hoping for after one bright season with Brady Quinn then
undelivered promises. Notre Dame can return to national prominence with
Kelly at the helm. He finds unpolished recruits and turns them into quality
collegiate football players.
Kelly would have to establish a winning culture. Early success is nothing
new for Notre Dame fans. Ty Willingham won his first eight games during his
tenure at South Bend. Weis took the Fighting Irish to a BCS Bowl game. Kelly
has quickly addressed a problem left behind from Weis, the defensive line.
The Fighting Irish are suppose to compete with the top tiered programs, it's
going to have to start in the trenches. Kelly's made it a priority to bring
in lineman, half of his 16 prospects play along either the defensive or
offensive line.
Kelly brings an air of confidence around him. He expects to win every time
he steps onto a football field. It's tremendous confidence for someone with
such a daunting task. He does a great job with the boosters and Notre Dame
supporters. He likes the pieces left behind by Weis. The daunting task he
hasn't faced anywhere else are the tough admissions standards set forth by
Notre Dame admissions. Yes, once student-athletes get on campus, there's a
lot of help but it's still more difficult that most state schools. The
Players are asked to put more time in the classroom than most other Division
I programs. Kelly understands how to deal with the admissions standards.
He's going to bring in the best players and teach. It's a lost art in
college sports, teaching players how to get better. It happens more often in
college football because of the three year requirement set forth by the NFL.
Kelly's confidence, along with his track record has Irish eyes smiling.
