Favre and His Decision:

Is everyone familiar with the story of the boy that cried
wolf. It's an Aesop fable about a shepherd boy that would trick the
villagers into thinking a wolf was attacking his flock of sheep, the
villagers stopped rushing to the boy's aide once there was no wolf. The end
is when an actual wolf eats the entire flock because no one believes the
boy. So this really doesn't have everything to do with the recent
speculation of Brett Favre's retire leak to most major media announcements,
but it's close. Most football fans love watching Favre play on Sunday, but
most are tired of the speculation surrounding his return every off season.
Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress went on to state that he hadn't
heard whether Favre is retiring or not. Favre himself hasn't made the
announcement yet. Text messages started arriving to his teammates "This Is
it" to many teammates. The leak included him informing the Vikings that he
wasn't playing this season. I'm skeptical, along with some of the other
sports writers. He may still deliberating coming back and playing this
season. He's walking away from his best chance to win the Super Bowl. Green
Bay wanted him out of the way for Aaron Rodgers. He went to the New York
Jets and played well. Then, last season was one of his best ever, with 28
touchdowns and only four interceptions while playing with Adrian Peterson,
Percy Harvin and the Vikings.
Favre could still come back. This situation is the hardest he's had to walk
away from. I think he's still going to play this season. The Vikings are a
Super Bowl contender with Favre, a mid pack team with Tavaris Jackson, Sage
Rosenfels or which ever quarterback they march out there. The Vikings have
the best running back in the NFL, a rising wide receiver corps that learning
every game. The defense is one of the best pass rushing front in the league.
If they had known of Favre's intentions, they could have gone after either
Jason Campbell or Donovan McNabb. Instead, they have to get Jackson ready
for the regular season.
Favre will retire at some point. There are strong hints that the time might
be now. Don't count on it. He can't walk away from the game of football, a
game he loves so much. It's unfair to the Vikings. They let him skip
training camp last year and this season. It would be shame if he walked away
from another chance to win his second Super Bowl ring.
