Boise State Makes Statement Against Virginia Tech:

The Boise State Broncos are for real. They earned a number
three preseason ranking. They're first game against Virginia Tech was a
classic game for the ages. They'll have to win all their games to be in the
BCS National Championship team. If two other teams from the major conference
remain undefeated during the regular season, those two teams will meet in
the championship game. The Broncos are expected to do well, they're not the
underdog team. Major conferences are giving them a chance to prove their
worth. It began with a contest with Virginia Tech on Monday.
They came out victorious, 33-30 over the Hokies in FedEx Field in Washington
D.C. It was a back and forth affair after Virginia Tech came back from a
17-0 early hole in the first quarter. The Hokies found their rhythm and
battled back to take the lead at different points during the contest. It was
Kellen Moore's 13-yard touchdown pass with 1:09 remaining that gave the
Broncos the lead for good.
Tyrod Taylor played tough and showed great experience leading the Hokies
from behind, but it wasn't enough for victory. Moore engineering the game
winning drive means that his chances for the Heisman Trophy are very much
alive. He finished the game with 215 passing yards with three touchdowns.
Taylor finished the game with 186 yards passing with two touchdowns and 73
rushing yards. The Hokies stud running back Ryan Williams, finished the game
with merely 44 yards rushing, but scored three touchdowns, including one in
the air from Taylor.
The dream of playing for their first national championship is still alive
for Boise State. The Broncos have a relatively easy schedule for the rest of
the regular season. Their WAC conference schedule poises no great threats.
Will they become the first team from a non-automatic bid conference to play
for a national championship? It's still very early to know. The BCS
computers haven't begun churning yet. It was a great way to begin the
college football season. Let's hope the computers get it right if Boise
State wins the remaining games. It would be very interesting if they had a
chance against one of the major collegiate programs.
