Big East Tournament In Full Swing:

The Big East has provided some great fireworks during the
2011 Big East tournament. It started on a sour note as the referees missed a
turnover in the waining minutes of a close game between Rutgers and St.
John’s. The referees have since withdrawn from the tournament for not
officiating the entire contest. It continued Thursday with UConn’s last
second buzzer beater and Syracuse’ domination of St. Johns.
Kemba Walker hit the winner at the buzzer to give the Huskies a 76-74 win
over number three Pittsburgh. It was UConn’s third win in as many days.
Walker finished the game with 24 points. He has scored over 20 points in
each of the three tournament games at MSG. UConn entered the tournament as
the ninth seed. They’ve defeated DePaul and Georgetown before the game
against the Panthers.
Syracuse dominated St. John’s, winning 79-73. The Orange starters plus
freshman center Fab Melo were the catalysts in the victory for the Orange.
It’s going to be a classic between UConn and Syracuse in the Big East
semifinals. The Orange earned a double bye, so it’s going to be interesting
to see if the Huskies show their playing their fourth game in four days.
Notre Dame manhandled Cincinnati, 89-51. Ben Hansbrough scored 24 points for
the Irish. If the Irish have a solid showing in the tournament, they may
enter the field of 68 as one of the four number one seeds. It’s a great time
to catch college basketball at MSG.
