Adding Anthony Makes Nets East Contender:

Carmelo Anthony doesn’t think the trade to the New Jersey Nets ins imminent.
Well, he’s wrong. The Nets have the best package of expiring contracts,
young players and draft picks to entice both the Denver Nuggets and Detroit
Pistons into completing a deal that lands Anthony in New Jersey. Involving
the Pistons means that Richard Hamilton and Chauncey Billups will join
Anthony with the Nets if the deal gets completed. It ensures that the Nets
become instantly better along with the future potential of a new arena in
Brooklyn and the free agency class of Chris Paul and Dwight Howard.
New Jersey will give up two first round picks, rookie Derrick Favors, guards
Devin Harris, Anthony Morrow and Ben Uzoh. The team will also part with
Quinton Ross, Stephen Graham and Troy Murphy. It would gut the Nets roster,
but Hamilton, Billups and Anthony would join Brook Lopez in forming a solid
Eastern Conference team. The Orlando Magic overhauled their roster through
trades earlier and they’re the most improved team in the East.
More and more, NBA executives see the value in giving up entire drafts and
younger players to bring in proven guys looking for one last shot at glory.
Anthony has plenty left. He’s a marquee guy that will bring fans to the
Prudential Center in Newark. Hamilton and Billups already have one ring
during their time in Detroit. The Nets won’t be contenders, but once the
playoffs come around, all a team needs to do is become hot and they can go
on a streak. Anthony’s a franchise savor on his way to the number one U.S.
market. It’ll just be Brooklyn instead of MSG.
