Anthony Derby Down to Knicks Vs. Nets:

The New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets spent All Star
weekend making the final pitches for Carmelo Anthony. Anthony and Nets owner
Mikhail Prokhorov and minority owner Jay-Z met at an Los Angeles restaurant
Sunday. The 40 minute encounter was highlighted by their outline on the
future of the franchise. The Nets will improve through free agency instead
of the draft. The Knicks announced they’re done adding pieces to the trade
for Anthony.
Danilo Galinari, Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler will all be a part of a
package to get Anthony to the Knicks. It’s long been known that Anthony
would sign the 3-year, $65 million contract extension with New York. The
Nets have a larger package, including Devin Harris, Derrick Favors and four
first round draft picks for Anthony. If he agrees to the trade and signs the
deal, Anthony would be the centerpiece of the Nets new Brooklyn arena along
with a player to draw top free agents.
The Nuggets need to decide which is the best package for Anthony. It’s
clearly the Nets. The problem is that even with Melo, the Nets won’t be
competitive for two or three seasons. It’s prime career time for Anthony. He
doesn’t want to wait and see if prize free agents want to play in New Jersey
then Brooklyn. The Knicks have Amare Stoudemire and the basketball mecca,
Madison Square Garden. The Nets have a better offer than the Knicks, but
ultimately, the decision lies with Anthony. Did the two owners sway his
favor or is the glitz of MSG too good to pass up. Which ever team, the
Nuggets will have to make a deal or be left with nothing and we all see how
well that went for the Cavaliers.
