All 32 Teams in Action This Weekend:

The NFL pre-season starts this in earnest this weekend. All 32 teams have contests between Thursday and Monday. For the casual fan, pre-season games are where they get mere glimpses of their favorite players. In all honesty, the outcomes of the game are irrelevant. The Indianapolis Colts have one winning pre-season record in the past seven years. Peyton Manning doesn't need repetitions in meaningless games.

Pre-season games are for coaches and fringe players battling for a roster spot. There are some interesting camp battles. Teams like the Detroit Lions, Washington Redskins and a few other teams are trying to find a new wide receiver to compliment their number one receivers. Redskins fans are also interested in the development of Donovan McNabb. Head coach Mike Shanahan flourished with a great running game and John Elway. McNabb isn't on the same level yet, but they can get fair with a solid defense. Clinton Portis is getting up in age. Keeping it in the NFC East, is Kevin Kolb ready to take over the solid Philadelphia Eagles offense. Can they find a replacement for Bryant Westbrook. LeSean McCoy should help should the load in the running game. The wide receiver corps are the strongest in the league, especially when they're healthy.

The Dallas Cowboys looked pretty good against the Cincinnati Bengals at the Hall of Fame game. Tony Romo still has all the time in the world to throw the ball. They moved the ball against a quality Bengals defense led by Dhani Jones, Tank Johnson and Rey Maualuga. Adam Jones has a good shot at making the team as the third cornerback with the Bengals. Late quarters in pre-season games, when the third and fourth teams are taking snaps, mistakes happen and the football becomes unwatchable.

Pre-season games are interesting to the die hards that memorize the battles, see the fourth stringer looking to make an impact against future insurance salesmen. Roger Goodell is exploring a smaller pre-season, only two games and adding the two games to the regular season. It would be a great idea. The owners love the idea of two more sellouts against two pre-season games with discounted tickets. Many fans are excited to see contact and hope their top players don't get injured on some fluke play. It also means there's only a month before the regular season. Only four weeks and it counts.
